Construction workers involved with Nottingham’s tram extension moved in to carry out remedial works on Middle Street in Beeston late on Thursday evening.

Local people reported seeing machinery arrive at the site just before 11pm.

Workers were seen carrying out several tasks on a stretch between Regent Street and the Crown Inn pub on Middle Street.

Last Tuesday, a source involved in the £570m tram project told BroxVox: “”There is a section of the track on Middle Street in Beeston which has been identified as needing to be dug up.”

This claim was later denied by tram operator Nottingham Express Transit (NET).

Amy, a student living near the works said: “We were disturbed by the noise at quarter to eleven and came to have a look and take some photos.

“We live around the corner and haven’t been told anything. You’d think they would inform nearby residents – some people have children.”

When asked if there were more works to be carried out in Beeston, a construction worker said: “This is just the start.”

The worker also confirmed that tasks included resurfacing of the road and rectifying expansion joints, which had succumbed to high levels of deterioration.

BroxVox understands that similar levels of corrective work will be carried out on Chilwell Road and between Central College and Cator Lane in Chilwell.

In respect of Amy’s claim, BroxVox is aware that some local residents received letters earlier this week informing them of the disruption.

  1. No real surprise that they are having to do further remedial work as the whole project has been plauged with problems and poor workmanship from day one. It is amazing however that they have been granted a licence to carry out the work at night causing further distress to residents close to the works who will have been given little if any warning of the work being carried out.
It would be cheaper to call it a day and just use the park and rides as bus routes and tarmac over the tracks giving buses a straight route into town while getting rid of the ugly wires and poles that make the areas look a complete mess.
